Romanticise school. Take joy in going to school, seeing friends, making notes, doing group projects and having a laugh. The best happiness is the happiness you get from the little everyday things.
Here are some academic tips in order to prepare you for the upcoming school year.
The first tip is to lock in from the start of the year- don't wait until exam season!
For those starting their GCSEs this year, get a notebook for each subject that you are taking. Once you get home from school, write any core notes you collected in these notebooks. Then, once it is time for an assessment, all of your notes will be ready for you to revise from!
Another good idea is to find the revision method that suits your learning best. Don't just do what your friends may be doing or what the teachers say is an effective method. Some people find it helpful to write flashcards and test themselves, others like to re-write notes. Other useful techniques include reciting facts out loud to pets and making drawings that match your notes. Choosing which methods suit you best depends on whether you're a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learner. Find out which one you are by doing this quick quiz:
It is also important that you don't overload yourself with school, and have a balance of work and fun. You should make plans with friends at the weekend or after school. This way you can look forward to something throughout the week rather than being stuck in a tiring school cycle.
